Japan Cake Journal

Baking guides, regional recipes and home kitchen notes

Privacy Policy

How Japan Cake Journal handles reader messages, submissions and the small amount of data the site actually collects.

Japan Cake Journal is an independent food newspaper for home bakers in South Africa. We keep this page plain on purpose: it describes what happens when you send a note to the editorial desk, what the site stores, and what you can ask us to do with it. Last updated in 2026.

What we collect

The contact form on the site asks for your name, your email address, where you bake, what your note is about, the note itself, and an optional checkbox if you can send bake-along photos. Those are the only fields the form carries. We do not run accounts, comments, orders, payments or bookings, and there is no login anywhere on the site.

How a submission is stored

When you submit the form, the handler writes the entry to a local file at /private/submissions.jsonl. Alongside the values you typed, it records the submission time, the form identifier, the page language and the source GET query string. The data stays on the site's own storage. It is not sent to a CRM, an email service, a payment processor or an analytics platform, because none of those are connected to this site.

How long we keep it

There is no automatic deletion schedule. Entries remain in the local log until the site owner removes the file by hand. If you want your entry gone before that happens, write to us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or receive a copy in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent for us to keep your note at any time. Readers in the EU and California have specific rights under GDPR and CCPA, and we apply the same access, correction, deletion, portability and opt-out requests to everyone who writes in.

Editorial honesty

We do not publish misleading claims, invented urgency, fake endorsements or borrowed brand names. We do not claim an official affiliation we do not have, and we do not promise a baking result we cannot back up. Corrections sent to the desk are checked against the original recipe notes before anything is changed.

Privacy questions

Send privacy requests to the editorial desk and we will work through them against the log.
